A Norfolk farm has closed its popular egg vending machine, but customers can still enjoy homemade goodies in the café.

Cavick House Farm, near Wymondham, has announced that it will no longer be selling eggs to the public.

It has been selling them to customers for 12 years, starting with a little honesty shed and developing into Norfolk's first egg vending machine.

This is due to the bird flu outbreak, which saw the family farm lose its entire flock of 16,000 hens back in October.

Annabel Grant, who runs the café and gift shop, said: "We have been sourcing free-range eggs from other farms since losing our hens but at a premium which is not sustainable.

"We now have hens back on the farm but we have had to rethink the business.

"We will be producing for someone else so we can't sell direct to customers."

However, Mrs Grant is feeling positive due to the ongoing success of the café and gift shop, which offers a range of drinks, homemade cakes and scones, sausage rolls and items from Norfolk makers.

She added: "The café has been open for nine years and it is going from strength to strength - we have had our busiest summer yet."

The café and gift shop is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10.30am-2pm and there is also a caravan and motorhome site at the farm.
